This growing season I’m growing a bunch of things specifically because I’ve never seen them to buy in the shops, or because I have no idea how they look as a plant.
I read a lot of gardening forums (nerd, I know) and many people talk about Rainbow Chard (or Swiss Chard). About how beautiful it is in the garden and how tasty it is in the kitchen. I had no idea what it was, but after a little research I realised it was the pretty sister of Silverbeet. I know Silverbeet, I thought, I ate it as a kid, it’s good with butter and pepper. How much cooler would it be to have one that’s a kaleidoscope of different colours?
I was so happy when the little babies poked their heads out of the soil and showed their stems were already jewel bright.
I probably have to thin these little guys, but how do you choose which ones get the chop when they’re all gorgeous?
