The Holiday Is Over

Posted on 30th June 2010 in Foreign Lands, Just Stuff, Musings, The England Files, Update

After two weeks in England – hereby renamed the Land Of Heat and Garden Glory – I’m back and in the process of recovering from jetlag and building up my cold tolerance. I honestly thought there had been a mistake when the pilot said the ground temperature in Sydney was 6 degrees. Surely he meant 26. Or at least 16. Please can I go back to England?

Le Fromage Yoda

Posted on 11th June 2010 in Armchair Gardening, Just Stuff

I’m currently watching Masterchef Australia sans sound – the best way to watch it – and while I have no idea what is actually going on during the master class, it looks like a stretched to human height and made pink Yoda is showing a couple of humans how to poke garlic into a round of Brie, chuck on a glass of red and garnish with a sprig of something green before baking in a medium oven for 10.

Containers of Earthly Delights

Posted on 8th June 2010 in Armchair Gardening, Art, Just Stuff, Musings

My garden is not much like Hieronymus Bosch’s painting – clearly there are not masses of naked people frolicking amidst the containers – or at least not when I’m around and I’d assume not right now either, it’s winter and not the most flattering season for naked frolicking.  Unless, of course, goosebumps and purple mottled skin are the accessories du jour – note to self, check Vogue.

I Need To Build An Ark Part II – Hope

Posted on 4th June 2010 in Garden Hardware, Not For Eating, Update

It’s not all doom and gloom and scuba gear in the garden – I thought my newly planted *cringe* wheelbarrow planter would be a write off, but I spied tiny green today.

I Need To Build An Ark

Posted on 4th June 2010 in Just Stuff

My plants need to grow gills. We’ve had so much rain here in the last week that I’m feeling the need to grow gills myself. I need it to stop raining for a day – or to clarify further, on one of my days off – so I can get my garden jobs done before I go on holiday. I have four tomato plants to re-pot, a bunch of cabbage and broccoli seedlings to re-pot, some leek seedlings to re-pot, a bunch of pots to wash and sterilise before the aforementioned re-potting can be carried out and a complete re-organisation of my garden to fit in the new pots. Deep breath.

New Book!

Posted on 2nd June 2010 in Books, Carnivorous Plants, Crazy Car Man, Just Stuff

My book has arrived!

CCM ordered ‘The Savage Garden‘ by Peter D’Amato for me what seems like years ago, which in reality was only a few weeks, but in this age of instant gratification is an eternity!

Blah blah blah, years, weeks, instant gratification, who cares!  I got a new book!  About plants that eat things!

!!!

This is why Kindles and Kobos and e-readers of a similar ilk will never, ever, EVER cause the death of the book.

The joy of holding a brand new book in your hands, smelling it, flipping through the pages, the wind in my hair from the aforementioned flipping, putting the first crease in the spine, the anticipation of the knowledge you know lies between the covers.

There is nothing like it!

And this is before I’ve even read a word.
