The Last Day of The Second Last Month of Winter

It is with great relief that I farewell the second last month of Winter.  Only one to go and then The Season That Should Not Exist will be over.  And not a moment too soon.  My soul is crying out for some hot from the sky (hot from a heater is a terribly poor substitute).

Today was a lovely mid-winter day though.  While Crazy Car Man was off playing with fire trucks (he’s a volunteer for the Rural Fire Service) I spent a satisfactory couple of hours playing in the garden.

The England Files: Part I – Bonsai In The City

One of the many joys of travelling 25 hours in a stinky, sweaty plane is seeing my sister waiting for me at the other end. She’s lived in England now for near on eight years and I consider her more of a Londoner than anything else these days. The City suits her.

Scentsational

I first found out about the scented loveliness here as a by-product of my insatiable search for garden knowledge. Scented geraniums, or to be truly technical – pelargoniums – are the less flashy cousin of the coloured geranium given to a million mum’s on Mother’s Day (not my Mum though – she’s getting hand made scented soap and chocolate covered coffee beans!).

Lessons From My Landlord

My landlord – Nick The Olive Man – is awesome. He’s an ancient Italian who came to Australia in 1953, worked his wee butt off ever since and now owns half the village in which we live. Our cottage and my garden are a tiny portion of the property on which he lives, has a billion olive trees and runs 150 free range chooks, owned, nurtured and chatted to by Marge the Chook Lady.
